Araz Türk Cümhuriyyəti / Aras Türk Cumhuriyeti

The Araxian public was a short-lived, unrecognized state in the South Caucasus. The area roughly corresponded to the current autonomous republic of Nachitsjevan in Azerbaijan. The name comes from the river Aras, which forms the southern border with Iran. The republic was declared in December 1918 by Jafargulu Khan Nakhchivanski with the support of Azerbaijani parties and the Young Turks in the Ottoman Empire. This was a response to a British proposal to allocate the area to Armenia.
