The Qajar dynasty was made up of the members which originated from the Qajar tribe, a branch of the Oghuz Turks. The Qajar dynasty ruled the Qajar state from c. 1742 to 1925.

After the abolishment of the sultanate, the Qajar dynasty in exiled is currently headed by the eldest descendant of Mohammad Ali Shah.
